Summary: A Marvel AU fic. You and Sam Wilson were colleagues first and friends second. You were both top of the resident pool in a prestigious orthopedic surgical residency program, which left no time to start or cultivate real relationships. You had earned the spot through relentless efforts on every front, despite unwanted opinions that your plus-size pear-shaped self couldn’t hack it, and you were not interested in a relationship that could pose even the slightest risk to derailing your dream. A well-timed offer of the often-discussed, but seldom observed “sex with no strings,” started something that made you more than smile.
Word Count: 2500
Pairing: Sam Wilson x Plus-size reader insert
Warnings: SMUT SMUT SMUTTY SMUT. If sex without strings isn’t your thing, please don’t read. If a woman who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to get it isn’t your thing, you should move on to the next worthy fic. If a black man and a white woman isn’t your thing, this isn’t for you. A teeny bit of angst
A/N: This started as a one-shot. Then I got some encouragement to continue it and ta-da! It’s 4 parts. Thanks to everyone who has read, liked, reblogged, and of course, commented. I loved writing this, as I never thought I could write for Sam (even though this is an AU, I find he is probably the easiest one to think of, in character, living a real life outside of the superhero world). Hope you love the way this ends, I do. 🙂 – Steph
As hospital shifts go, this one was relatively low-key. The usual summer injuries that necessitated orthopedics didn’t seem to be happening, so you had time to excessively worry about what you would say when you met with your bosses. You and Sam talked briefly, but he was covering the floor while you were in the ER, so you didn’t cross paths as much as usual.
I love how you’ve created this wonderful reader that Sam is absolutely head over heels in love with, and vice versa. She’s not perfect; she has insecurities just like all of us. So beautiful. Thank you for taking me on this journey.

A/N: I wanted to write, but didn’t feel like starting another multi-chapter serious fic. Ummmm, so that didn’t go according to plan. Here I am with part 3 of this, and halfway into visualizing part 4. Oh well, it’s what I love about this fanfic deal – that you can do this kind of thing just because it feels right. Not many things in life are like that. Hope you’re loving it! Let me know, I always appreciate your time and efforts in reaching out. – Steph
For the first time since you’d been….whatever you were….Sam canceled on you. He had been polite and honest, but said he just wasn’t up to coming over. You responded the only way you knew how, that you understood and hoped you would see him soon. You felt the sting of guilt and a tiny bit bigger kick of karma coming around to smack you upside the head for getting into this situation in the first place and doing the last thing you wanted to do – hurt your best friend.

Oh, and this chapter has my most overt angst I’ve ever done. It’s not much, but writing it felt great!
A/N: I wanted to write, but didn’t feel like starting another multi-chapter serious fic with all the necessary elements to make it as good as this fandom deserves. So, I took an idea an kinda ran a little ways with it. Thanks to @andiholly and @loricomeback for their encouragement in writing a part 2 – my very first request! I’m kinda excited! 🙂
Your first year of residency was almost over. Late nights, take out, and those same ol’ nonstop demands were as omnipresent as ever, but your stress level had significantly moderated thanks to your arrangement with Sam. You and he continued to impress your supervisors and were given increasing amounts of responsibility. The decision of who would be the next Chief Resident was going to be announced soon, and you were both gunning for the position. If your insider network of therapists, doctors, and nurses were to be believed, the two of you were neck and neck.

So, I took an idea an kinda ran a little ways with it. What do y’all think? Good? Crap? I have a thought for one more part, so, as always, I treasure your opinions about it is warranted. Thank you so much to @star-spangled-man-with-a-plan for the Sam discussion, it planted the seed! 🙂
First, people were surprised. They tried to hide it under giggles or nervous observations, but they were shocked. Then, they assumed you were unhappy or had a preference for self-flagellation if you were in a casual relationship that was based on sex. Neither of you told more than a few close friends, but those that knew worried about you. They didn’t need to. You and the guy worked in the same building, doing jobs that were so frantic there was little time to consider emotions, feelings, or the tangled vines of a relationship.
